• Knowing More about “The Bruce Lee Diet”

    31 August 2012

Every martial artist these days definitely knows about Bruce Lee.  It would be impossible not to know Bruce Lee if one indulges in Martial Arts. Bruce Lee is not just a Martial Arts icon.  His firm physique also symbolizes his advocacy for health and wellness.  The extra ordinary strength he has can be attributed to his rigid physical training and nutritional diet. Well, thanks to his wife who does much of the cooking.  Therefore, if you want to excel in the field of Martial Arts you should also be an advocate of healthy diet.  The following are some helpful information about the Bruce Lee diet which you can incorporate in your daily nutritional plan:

Stay away from foods with empty calories.

Bruce Lee’s diet was devoid of empty calories which are found in refined flour.  This is why he never ate cakes, pies, candies, donuts, sodas and French fries. The term “empty calories” can be a bit misleading.  Although it is called “empty”, in reality it is filled with calories which contain very little to no nutritional value.   Eating foods which contain empty calories can only lead to obesity and poor overall health.

    Eat smaller, frequent meals.

Bruce Lee was much of a disciplined eater. He never went into binge eating.  He never made any attempts to eat more than what he needs despite undergoing rigid physical training.  But, he was the kind of person who only ate smaller meals, up to five times a day. Eating less but more often is always better because it prevents your metabolism from slowing down. On the contrary, those who eat big meals for only two to three times a day are at risk of turning calories into fat.  When a person eats for only a few times in a day his body will more likely to save fuel which will lead to fat depositation.  Thus, the metabolism slows down causing the person to gain more weight.

    Drink healthy beverages.

Fruits and vegetable juices were a very important part of Bruce Lee’s diet plan.  He even bought for himself an electric juicer so he could make beverages from green vegetables, fresh fruits and carrots. Never think about buying fbottled juices from the grocery store.  These juices are already filled with preservatives and contain no nutrients at all. These are just some of the reasons why Bruce Lee preferred to make his own juices.  This is because when you are the one making your juice you are guaranteed that it has no preservatives.  The best thing about drinking fresh juice from fruits and vegetables is that you will be able to get as much as 80% of its nutrients. Add to that the reduction in the amount of work that your digestive system has to perform.  In turn, you will have healthier liver, kidney, improved immune system and better overall health.

Make it a habit to drink tea.

Bruce Lee loved to drink a cup of tea. Some of his favorite teas include Lipton and Li-Cha. Sometimes, Bruce would prefer to mix Lipton tea with honey. It has already been proven that those who love to drink tea have better immune system than those who do not. Tea contains anti-oxidants that help fight against the destructive effects of free radicals. It also contains L-theanine which is an amino acid that helps people feel calm and relaxed.  Therefore, if you make it a habit to drink tea you will reduce your risks of suffering from stress and anxiety.

In summary, Bruce Lee was an advocate of healthy and balanced diet.  He firmly believed that rigid physical training must be coupled with a healthy nutritional plan.  This way, every martial arts enthusiast will be able to achieve an optimal health and an ideal body built. Bruce Lee always gave advice to his fellow martial arts enthusiasts not to eat and drink those food and beverages that provide no benefits to the body.
